FIRST BOXING SESSION
1-to-1 boxing at London Bridge: what to expect
Booking your first boxing session can feel like a big step, especially if you've never put on a pair of gloves. Most people who message me ask the same thing: "I've never boxed before – is that OK?" It is. Most of the people I coach started exactly where you are.
I'm Henry, a pro boxing coach and Level 3 personal trainer with 15 years' experience. I run 1-to-1 boxing sessions at Fisher Boxing Club, near London Bridge. Here's exactly what happens in your first session.
How the hour goes
1. A quick chat about you
What you want from boxing, any injuries, how active you are now and how you like to train. Whether it's fitness, weight loss, self defence or proper technique, this shapes the whole session.
2. Wrapping your hands
I'll show you how to wrap your hands properly. Wraps protect your wrists and knuckles, and putting them on is one of the first real boxing skills you'll learn.
3. Warm-up
Skipping, shadow movement and mobility work to get you moving, matched to your fitness level.
4. Stance, guard and footwork
The foundation of everything: how to stand, where to hold your hands and how to move without losing your balance.
5. Your first punches
The jab and the cross. We go slowly and focus on technique – turning your hips, keeping your guard up, bringing your hands back – then put them together into simple combinations. I aim to show you the 6 basic punches.
6. Pad work
The part most people remember. I hold the pads and call combinations while you work. It's fast, fun and a serious workout, but always paced to you.
7. End-of-session feedback
We finish with a quick chat about how it went: what you did well, what to work on next, and how we can build a plan around your goals.
Common questions
Do I need to be fit already?
No. You'll get fitter by boxing, and I adjust the pace to you.
Will I have to spar?
No. 1-to-1 sessions are about technique and fitness. There's no sparring unless you want to work towards it.
How long is a session?
60 minutes.
How often should I train?
Once or twice a week is a great start. Consistency matters more than intensity.

Before you arrive
Wear comfortable gym clothes and trainers
Bring water and a towel
Gloves are provided, but ideally bring your own hand wraps
Eat light – a snack an hour or two before is ideal
